College degree not needed to become senator, Sara tells Imee Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday said she told Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos that her experience as governor makes her very much qualified to run for senator, as the daughter of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos got bombarded with allegations of faking her college and law degrees. Duterte-Carpio, chairperson of regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago which endorses the candidacies of Marcos and 12 others, said she has talked to the Ilocos Norte governor and the latter promised to release a new statement regarding the issues hounding her supposedly fake college degrees. “Sabi niya maglalabas siya ng written official statement about the question on her educational background,” Duterte-Carpio told reporters at the sidelines of the HNP campaign rally in Antipolo City, Rizal. “Sinabi ko naman sa kanya, in any event, whatever it is, the law, our Constitution only requires for the president, vice-president, and senators to be able to read and write and she can very well do that given her track record as governor. Marcos on her official website, claims to be “one of the first female graduates from an Ivy League School—Princeton University, graduating with honors. The Daily Princetonian, the independent student paper of Princeton University, however, reported that Princeton Deputy University Spokesperson Michael Hotchkiss had noted that Marcos attended “from fall 1973 to spring 1976 and returned again for fall 1977 to spring 1979,” and had an independent concentration in Religion and Politics. Marcos’ alleged graduation from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman has also been disproven after Marcos posted photos of her supposed graduation from the UP College of Law in 1983.
