Your Fancy Degree Means Nothing In Clinical Research

hey guys Serg here back with another
episode today’s video is going to be about your fancy degree in clinical
research does it help you does it hurt you find out after the intro hey guys
Serg here back with another episode your fancy degree means nothing in clinical
research yeah I said it I’m talking your fancy degree means
nothing in clinical research that’s the topic of today’s video so what do I mean
by a fancy degree I’m talking master’s degree I’m talking PhD I’m talking any
type of these advanced degrees above a bachelor’s degree does not mean anything
in clinical research now you’re probably saying an ECR gee isn’t that pretty
harsh I mean they always told us to get more education back in the day they
always told us you know get your masters get your bachelors get your masters get
your masters get your PhD get your MD get as many degrees as you possibly can
and that’s gonna how your that’s how you’re gonna be successful in in the
industry so that must be the same for clinical research right wrong clinical
research is an experience based field I’m gonna say it again
clinical research is an experience based field so that means get your experience
that means focus on getting experience do not focus on taking out more debt
taking out more loans so you can go get a degree it does not matter if it’s a
master’s in clinical research it does not matter if it’s a PhD in clinical
research it does not matter you have got to get clinical research experience if
you want to be in the clinical research industry now this of course applies for
people that are not trying to be pis and sub eyes of that nature if you want to
be a PI of course you’ve got to get your MD you got to get your PhD you’ve got to
be a nurse practitioner or whatever you’ve got to have those advanced
degrees but if you’re trying to be a project manager if you’re trying to be a
CRA if you’re trying to be you know whatever do not get those advanced
degrees in order to get there those are just inhibiting you from what you really
need to be doing which is focus on getting your experience your fancy
degree does not mean anything all they want is experience now why is that now
we’ve talked a lot about on this channel how sponsors dictate every single person
that works on their clinical trial they have to sign off and how they sign off
is your resume they want people that know how to do the job so that’s why
your fancy degree doesn’t mean anything because just because you got a degree
does not mean you know how to do the job you have the same learning curve that
everyone else has to do so it doesn’t matter if you’ve got a PhD this matter
if you’ve got an MBA and all this other stuff you need experience it’s it’s one
thing to learn about it in the book but it’s a whole nother thing to learn about
it when you’re actually having to do it in real life there are two completely
different things so it’s better just go ahead and get that experience out of the
way and then you can couple it later with an advanced degree if you so choose
but there’s not many industries where you can go make six figures or more
multiple six figures with just a bachelor’s degree I know people that
make six figures without a bachelor’s degree with an associate’s degree being
CRA s of course the only way to do that is with the experience you’ve got to
double-down an experience that way but you can make multiple six figures in
this industry without a masters or PhD or any other of the advanced degrees it
is possible I know people that are doing it right now I myself am not at that
level quite yet but I’m on that path and of course I’m gonna share that knowledge
with you guys along the way as I continue to grow in the career but guys
you have got to get your experience that the only thing that matters I got people
emailing me all the time I get emails daily from from
there’s listeners and I’m so glad you guys message me but one of the things I
needed to you know one of the reasons why I decided to do this video is
because a lot of people are emailing me with advanced degrees they’ve got do s
they’ve got masters in public health they’ve got this master’s degree that
master’s degree and they’re trying to say oh can I be a CRA or can I be a
project manager can I come in at that level no you need your experience you’ve
got to start at the bottom just like everyone else guys in my first
entry-level position my first entry-level position I was on the
project management side I was the project manager assistant there were
other people that worked at the same company as me that had PhDs in that same
exact role now imagine that somebody got a PhD doing the exact same job I was
doing you know making $47,000 a year you know they might get paid a little bit
more in extra thousand or two but not what that PhD is worth now what they
thought they were gonna get with that PhD so guys you got to get that
experience your fancy degree does not mean what you think it means and this is
a big change and I’m sure we’re gonna see this happen more throughout the next
course of the next few years because you’re seeing companies drop degree
requirements you’re seeing a lot of outspoken people talking about how you
know even just the college degree itself I mean if you don’t get a college degree
then obviously you’re not getting an advanced degree but just how that is way
overpriced and not worth it anymore you’re seeing all these companies just
go ahead and drop the degree requirement so we’re under a massive shift right now
and I think clinical research is to stand a benefit from that because they
already don’t care too much about the fancy degrees you got to get your
experience now after you get your experience four or five six seven years
in the industry could it be worth it to get an advanced degree maybe an MBA
maybe a master’s in finance or something or whatever you want to do especially if
you want to make it to that executive level it could be beneficial it could be
a lot of times executives do have master’s degrees and especially if you
want to change industry at some point it could be beneficial you know not all
industries are shying away from advanced degrees if you don’t want to get to the
more Pharma side it could be beneficial but right now in the beginning of your
career first few years gets your experience because that degree does not
matter and I majored in psychology by the way so you don’t even need a
bachelor’s in in clinical research you don’t even the bachelors in biology you
can get into the clinical research field with any degree you have to apply follow
the stuff we’ve talked about on our channel about using indeed you going to
these companies websites if you have any more questions about that you can
contact us if you need any resume help you can contact us also we will get your
resume where it needs to be a lot of people have been emailing in about their
their resumes and how they want help doing it but they’re they’re not they’re
not really ready to make that fundamental change and go all-in on
getting their career in clinical research they’re not they’re not yet
there so when you’re finally ready to go all in do the work it’s gonna take to
fix your resume and to really bring that out of you and your experience you then
you email us at elite clinical group at gmail.com until then you’re probably
going to still struggle to get in these this industry because a lot of people
are emailing and they’re and they’re not really ready to go all in they’re not
really ready to do the work so email us Ally clinical group at gmail.com if you
understood in any other inquiries or anything all right guys that’s it for
this video remember guys go get that experience
take care

The only place it matters are Universities idk why

  2. Jeary Shin says:

There's more roles than CRA or PM in clinical research.. such as Clinical Trial Liaison. Some actually do require PhD or even PharmD.
